Continental's GP 5000S TR is also a tubeless ready road tire suitable for hookless rims. Both the rolling ability of the tire and the puncture protection have been improved from before, e.g. thanks to the new frame structure. The new two-layer 2/220 tpi frame structure improves the resistance of the sides against cuts, while being more flexible and therefore better rolling. There are also familiar, proven technologies, such as Vectran puncture protection and the Lazer Grip micro profile, which offers unique grip and reliability for cornering.

According to Continental, the novelty is 20% faster, 28% better in terms of side protection and, depending on the size, 50-70 grams lighter.

Vectran is a puncture protection developed and patented by Continental, which is lighter and more flexible and protects more effectively than the corresponding nylon puncture protection. It does not reduce the tire's rolling resistance. Vectan is a liquid crystal polymer (LCP) like a spider's web and is spun from molten Vectra liquid polymer and further processed into a multifilament yarn. Like a spider's web, Vectran is highly resistant to tearing while being lightweight.
